Fantastic Contraption is a remarkable collection of curious things, including 11 of the original artworks from the book, CARNIVORA: The Dark Art of Automobiles, by artists Eduard Anikonov, Greg Brotherton, D. Hwang, J. U. Abrahamson, Christopher Conte, Kazihiko Nakamura and H. R. Giger.

Carnivora Update

Photos of the Carnivora exhibition installation and the opening night at Detroit’s ©Pop Gallery have been uploaded to the PICS section of the Carnivora MySpace page. Please have a look. the show looks great! Of the 90 artists featured in the book, 64 are represented in this first leg of the exhibition. The show looks great! A big thanks is owed to Tom Thewes, Rick Manore and all the people who pitched in and helped during the two days leading up to the opening, Topher Crowder, Jaclyn Schanes, and visiting artists Patrick Byers, Bernado Corman, and Jason D’Aquino. My big thanks to Chris X and Kevin Slaughter for making sure the book was done in time for the ©Pop exhibition and for representing Scapegoat Publishing on opening night. Others in attendance from the Carnivora family were editors George Petros and Deanna Lehman, and contributing author Daphne Graham. The exhibition will run through the end of February. If you are anywhere within a 100 mile radius, it is well worth the trip to view the Carnivora art collection up close and in person. 200 advance copies of the book were rushed from the printer to Detroit for sale at the show so, for now, until the first shipment of Carnivora arrives at bookstores in April, ©Pop Gallery is the ONLY place in the world the book is available!

TO ALL CARNIVORA VISUAL ARTISTS

If you are one of the participating visual artists in the Carnivora book, you have been invited to participate in the Carnivora traveling exhibition, set to open at ©POP Gallery in Detroit on January 12th. This should NOT be of news to you. If for some reason it is, please visit the Carnivora MySpace Exhibition page, ASAP. The direct link from this page is one of the hot-links under BLOGROLL. (That’s to your Right, Cerio, and a bit down). Once there, it is important for you to read the section marked Carnivora Artists FAQ’s and also the one above it marked Carnivora Artists! Consignment And Info Sheet Downloads. To date, over 50 artists have confirmed their intention to participate with artwork in the exhibit, by returning to ©Pop the filled out forms, as requested. Of course, hard copies should be sent to the gallery along with your artwork. (Don’t forget, Kenneth.) And lastly, if you’ve elected, for any reasons, to sit this one out, please drop a line to me or to ©Pop and let us know. We would be very sorry to hear it, but the Heads Up will help us finalize our preparations for the show.

Carnivora – The Art Show……

The show was the original idea, actually. The book, you might say, was a detour on the way to Detroit. What was originally envisioned as a modest size show of around 20 artists, now promises to be an exhibition more than twice as large. The many original artworks that were created for the Carnivora book will form the core of the show, premiering at ©Pop Detroit with an Opening Reception on January 12th, and a book signing the following day by the attending artists. For details, visit the recently launched Carnivora MySpace page. The website provides information for collectors and participating artists alike, as well as a sneak preview of many of the artworks that will be in the exhibition, which is scheduled to coincide with The North American International Auto Show, the most important event in that industry. Carnivora Update

It has been a month-and-a-half since the last blog entry, so there is much to tell. First, Tomi Ungerer was located just days before the book closed, allowing us to add him to our list of illustrious contributors. Permission never came from the publisher of Douglas Adams’ The Salmon of Doubt, so you’ll just have pick up this excellent book to enjoy the hilarious musings of a British cabbie. In the meanwhile, we were fortunate to secure a few more excellent contributors to Carnivora. Their names have been added to the updated list of 112 participating artists & writers. After a final round of grueling last minute corrections, the book was finally sent off the printer in mid November. None of this would have been possible without the selfless dedication and hard work of Kevin Slaughter, the Carnivora book designer, who stayed with it well past what should have been the end. I would also like to single out my friend Matthias Belz, whose meticulous final round of proofing caught, what I hope, was the last batch of embarrassing typos, Viktor Koen for his striking cover design (see above), and George Petros for managing to extract some last minute comments from me on this project. The ride was very much like a roller-coaster, seemingly without end, both thrilling and frightening at the same time. And we have only just begun. Now comes the Carnivora exhibitions, which will be the fun part.
